What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are substances that can be injected into the skin to reduce the appearance of deeper wrinkles or to add volume to many areas of the face. Most fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid which is a substance naturally found in the skin. Other fillers are made of substances that promote collagen formation to create volume and tighten the skin. 

What areas are treated with fillers?

Fillers were initially used to improve the appearance of the deep crease in the nasolabial fold (the line going from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth). Over time their use has expanded to adding volume to the lips, cheeks, chin, and many other areas. 

How long do results last?

One of the major benefits of fillers is that their results are seen immediately. Over time, the body slowly breaks down the product and the results gradually fade away. Treatment in most areas lasts about a year, although some areas may maintain their results for shorter or longer amounts of time.

 

What are the side effects of treatment?

 

The most common side effects are pain and swelling. These are typically mild and only last for a short amount of time. Certain areas such as the lips may swell longer than other areas, so keep that in mind when planning your treatments.
